How much content does your business need?


Last week we talked about the dangers of a “yes, and” approach to content marketing. More is not always better.

That begs the question, how much content is enough?

Believe it or not, you don’t need as much content as you might think to market and grow your business.

On your website, you need:

  • A homepage that clearly differentiates you from your competitors
  • Well-written, well-optimized product pages, optimized for search engines
  • A blog with 5-10 blog posts that talk about your philosophy, the problem you solve, the process you use to solve that problem, and resources or information that demonstrates your expertise
  • An about page that boosts credibility and explains why you do what you do
  • Legal pages: terms, privacy, etc.
  • A lead magnet that helps you build a list of qualified leads

Off-site, you need:

  • Social media content that attracts your ideal customer and generates demand
  • Email content that keeps subscribers engaged

For SaaS companies, I also recommend:

  • Onboarding content that drives adoption
  • Knowledge base content that turns casual users into power users
  • Product newsletter that keeps users engaged
  • Sales enablement content that shortens the sales process, if you have a sales team

There are, of course, advanced strategies that can help you establish your expertise and expand your reach quickly, but the point of this email is to help you realize how little content is needed to drive measurable growth.

And notice how little of it needs constant attention: your social media content, your emails or newsletters, content that supports your customers, and content that drives leads and sales.
